Students, Workers And Twenty-Somethings

SWAT is a group for young adults that exist to provide fellowship and learning for an age group that is often at a transitional and less ‘time-poor’ stage of life. We meet on Sunday's at 6:30pm in the hall.

SWAT

Moving far from home to come to uni at Newcastle, starting out in the workforce locally, living life out as a young Christian single, moving towards marriage or adjusting to the reality of married life are some of experiences that our young adults are going through. It is a crucial stage of life where we do a lot of our thinking that will shape the rest of our lives. SWAT exists to strengthen community and support among this age group with opportunity to bring the Bible to bear on real life issues they are facing.

A key focus of SWAT has always been having a spread of ages within the group from those who are just beginning this transition stage of life to those, who are midway through some of life’s changes as well as others who have come out the other end!

SWAT also helps out by serving our wider community occasionally running Woodlands services and Crossroads.

Here’s a bit of a run down of what we looked at last year to give you a clear idea of what to expect:

  • We studied the New Testament letter of James through a series of talks and interactive studies
  • We worked through a marriage series on video by Mark Driscoll
  • We ran The Peacemaker course by Ken Sande which gives biblical guidelines for conflict resolution in all sorts of situations

Each teaching session is followed by discussion and praying for one another more personally.Of course, some coffee, food and general socialising is a part of the night too!

We meet together on a Sunday evening at the church hall (344-348 Lake Road, Glendale) from 6.30pm. If you’re a young adult we’d love you to come along and join us!
