Engage: Get Involved

At Grace Evangelical, ‘being disciples of Christ and making disciples for Christ’ guides all that we are as a group of God’s people. We long to be a relational church that shares in each other’s lives, as well as looking outward to a world that does not know God.

Being Together

Being Together

As people who’ve been brought into relationship with God, we’ve also been brought into relationship with one another – into community. Together we form one local group of God’s rescued people.

As the writer to the Hebrews points out our goal in meeting together is to encourage one another to keep trusting Jesus, as the One who makes us right with God, until the day that he wraps this world up (Hebrews 10:23-25). It is this very meeting together and encouragement that is vital to keep us going to the end. For otherwise, left on our own, our deceptive hearts could easily turn away from God:

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
Hebrews 3:12-15 (NIV)

To allow this kind of meaningful relating we long to share in each other’s lives. Our Sunday morning meetings are where we meet together as a large family gathering around God’s word, singing together and catching up with one another. We also have a diverse range of groups that meet regularly to suit many different ages, stages of life and available time. They include a variety of small groups and young adults group (‘SWAT’). Our outreach groups overlap somewhat with our playgroup (‘Gecko Playgroup’), junior youth group (‘Fresh’) and senior youth group each providing opportunity for our own people to be together while reaching out to others.

Outreach

Outreach

As a group of group of people who’ve experienced new relationship with God through the finished work of Jesus we long to let other people know about this good news. We desire to be outward focussed people engaging with the world around us.

Of course lots of this happens informally, behind the scenes, as each of us lives out our life in the unique situations where God has placed us. However, we also have a number of regular more ‘formal’ outreach activities that give us opportunity to serve our wider community together, with the goal of building meaningful relationships and speaking openly about Jesus. To reach out to younger people we run a playgroup (‘Gecko Playgroup’), a junior youth group (‘Fresh’) and a senior youth group. Other opportunities for people at other stages of life include running regular services in a local nursing home (‘Woodlands’), running hat parades at nursing homes around the Hunter, a community clothing swap, seniors coffee meetings as well as annual evangelistic events (which you can find under ‘What’s On’).
